We are proud to announce the completion of a fiber network upgrade and expansion in the town of Buchanan and Botetourt County, VA.
Shentel has completed a high-capacity, state-of-the-art fiber optic network along the Interstate 81 corridor in Botetourt County. As a result, residents in the town of Buchanan and surrounding areas now have access to residential Internet packages up to 101Mbps. In addition to the new speeds, more than 20 new HD video channels are now available to cable customers.
During the past year, we have invested over $2.5 million to expand fiber optic network facilities in Botetourt County. Because of this investment, businesses along the Interstate 81 corridor now have access to ultra-fast broadband speeds up to 100Gbps.
“We are committed to providing the most advanced fiber-based services to support the growing data needs of our customers,” said Ed McKay, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Network Planning. “We have over 5,000 fiber route-miles throughout Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, and Botetourt County is a great example of being able to leverage that fiber to bring high-speed data services to rural areas.”
