What is Federal Lifeline?

Eligible customers can apply a monthly Lifeline discount of $9.25 to a voice service or $9.25 to a qualifying Internet service. However, customers can only receive the discount on one service, either voice or internet. For more information about Lifeline discounts on qualifying voice and Internet plans, please contact Shentel Customer Support.


How to find out if you're eligible


Income-Based Eligibility

If your household income is at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, you may qualify for a Lifeline discount. To see if your household meets this requirement, refer to the federal poverty guidelines eligibility chart, which is updated annually.

Program-Based Eligibility

If you or someone in your household participates in one of the following federal assistance programs, you may be eligible for the Lifeline Program.

Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) or Section 8
Medicaid
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension Benefits
Tribal Specific Eligibility Programs

How to get your discount

  • Register for Lifeline here.
  • Forward approval email to: cs.backoffice.support@emp.shentel.com
  • New customers call 1-800-SHENTEL to begin the order process. Your Customer Support Representative will handle the rest.
