Sunspots can affect cable reception in early October

Posted 28 September 2016 5:08 PM by Shentel

Twice a year, the sun is positioned directly in line with the ground-based satellite dish antennas used to receive Shentel Cable TV programming. This positioning causes programming interruptions as the sun’s energy overpowers the signals transmitted by the satellites. This will take place between Oct. 2 and Oct. 13 this fall.

The sunspot interruptions could present in several different ways. They could be in the form of pixilation, a frozen picture, a black screen or a “temporarily off air” screen. The interruptions usually last from five to 15 minutes for each affected channel.

ALL Shentel cable channels can be affected by the sunspot activity except for the local channels which are located at the beginning of the digital and HD tiers.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that Shentel, as a cable company, can do about this natural phenomenon. The good news is that it will last only those few days in early October.
