Each year, Shentel partners with the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (VCTA) and the Donald A. Perry Foundation to give Virginia’s Future Scholarship Awards to outstanding students in the Shentel Cable service area.

This year, nine students in the Shentel service area were among the 77 awarded statewide to Virginia students this year by cable systems like Shentel across the Commonwealth.

Receiving scholarships in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 were the following students:

Dominique McCoy, Appomattox $2,500

Anahely Cruz, New Market - $2,000

Rebecca Andrews, Strasburg - $1,000

Danielle Garrett, Forest - $1,000

Elizabeth Arrington, Rocky Mount - $1,000

Tiannah Blassingame, Christiansburg - $1,000

Casey Burton, Rocky Mount - $1,000

Skylar Shaver, Christiansburg - $1,000

Emily Stewart, Christiansburg - $1,000

“We are delighted to join with partners from the Virginia cable industry in celebrating these students and helping to ease the financial burden of those pursuing higher education,” said Tom Whitaker, VP of Shentel Cable. “Shentel is committed to the successful growth of the Virginia economy, and developing our young leaders is critical to our success as a community and an industry.”

Now in its 15th year, the Virginia’s Future Leaders Scholarship program is a statewide education initiative of the Virginia cable industry. To date, more than $1 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding Virginia students attending Virginia colleges and universities.

“The Virginia cable industry is honored and excited to award so many scholarships to outstanding students across the Commonwealth,” said Ray LaMura, VCTA President. “We congratulate all the winners for their achievements and commend their hard work, dedication to higher learning and leadership contributions to their communities.”

The VCTA and its member companies encourage area students to visit the VCTA website for more information about the Virginia’s Future Leaders Scholarship program. For more information on Shentel’s services and recent activities, visit or call 1-800-SHENTEL (1-800-743-6835).
