Virginia's Future scholarships given by Shentel

Each year, Shentel partners with the
Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (VCTA) and the Donald A. Perry
Foundation to give Virginia’s Future Scholarship Awards to outstanding
students in the Shentel Cable service area.
This year, nine students in the
Shentel service area were among the 77 awarded statewide to Virginia students
this year by cable systems like Shentel across the Commonwealth.
Receiving scholarships in amounts
ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 were the following students:

Andrews, Strasburg - $1,000

Garrett, Forest - $1,000
Elizabeth
Arrington, Rocky Mount - $1,000

Christiansburg - $1,000
Casey
Burton, Rocky Mount - $1,000
Skylar
Shaver, Christiansburg - $1,000
Emily
Stewart, Christiansburg - $1,000
“We are delighted to join with
partners from the Virginia cable industry in celebrating these students and
helping to ease the financial burden of those pursuing higher education,” said Tom
Whitaker, VP of Shentel Cable. “Shentel is committed to the successful growth
of the Virginia economy, and developing our young leaders is critical to our
success as a community and an industry.”
Now in its 15th year, the
Virginia’s Future Leaders Scholarship program is a statewide education
initiative of the Virginia cable industry. To date, more than $1 million in
scholarships have been awarded to outstanding Virginia students attending
Virginia colleges and universities.
“The Virginia cable industry is
honored and excited to award so many scholarships to outstanding students
across the Commonwealth,” said Ray LaMura, VCTA President. “We congratulate all
the winners for their achievements and commend their hard work, dedication to
higher learning and leadership contributions to their communities.”
