This weekend is a great opportunity to take a look at some shows which have gotten a lot of buzz. Showtime is planning a free preview weekend Jan. 9-11 and will feature the premiere of several of its most popular shows.
“Shameless,” the series that features Oscar-nominated actor William Macy as the single dad of a crew of self-sufficient children, will debut on Sunday. This is good because the dad, Frank Gallagher, is an alcoholic in need of a little help himself.
The season premiere of “House of Lies” is on after “Shameless” on Sunday night at 10 p.m. and the premiere of “Episodes” follows at 10:30. Both of these shows have gotten critical acclaim and they star familiar TV actors. Don Cheadle is the lead actor in House of Lies and Matt LeBlanc of Friends fame is the lead character on Episodes.
Other things going on during the Free Preview Weekend include a documentary about the making of the album Illmatic by Nas, Inside the NFL:2014 Week 19, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
And, of course, there are movies. “Silver Lining Playbook,” The Longest Yard,” Django Unchained” and Lee Daniels’ “The Butler,” just to name a few. You can find the list of programming at http://www.sho.com/sho/free-preview/1/showtime.
So haul out the blankets and stock up on your popcorn and enjoy your second January weekend watching Showtime!
Cindy Earehart Rinker, marketing supervisor at Shentel, is looking forward to watching two of the movies listed about this weekend.
