Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN), has announced that it will carry the new SEC (Southeastern Conference) Network starting Aug. 19, 2014.

The newly-formed SEC Network features college sports from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) — the collegiate athletics conference whose members consist of institutions that are located primarily in the southeastern part of the country. The network’s first live regular season football games will air on Aug. 28, featuring Texas A&M vs. South Carolina and Temple vs. Vanderbilt. In the first month of broadcasting, the SEC Network will reportedly carry football games featuring all 14 of the conference members.

Former University of Florida and NFL quarterback Tim Tebow and former University of Alabama and NFL quarterback Greg McElroy will serve as college football analysts for the SEC Network. ESPN’s Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer will serve as lead game announcers.

“We are excited to offer this option to our sports fans,” said Tom Whitaker, VP of Shentel Cable. “We wanted to make this available before the start of football season to make sure passionate viewers have the chance to catch all the exciting in-game action that the SEC Network has to offer.”

In addition to the SEC Network, Shentel is also launching a Fans Choice package that will feature the NFL RedZone, Fox Soccer Plus, ESPN Buzzer Beater, Fight Network, Fantasy Sports Network, World Fishing Network, Horse Racing TV and Pursuit Channel — a hunting/outdoors activities channel.

“Sports enthusiasts will love this package,” Whitaker said. “There is something for just about every kind of sports fan. Whether you’re a college basketball devotee, a fly fishing fanatic or a dedicated fantasy sports follower, the Fans Choice package has programming to satisfy all your sports entertainment cravings.”
