Shentel is proud to be participating in the 17th annual Alleghany Highlands Bike Rodeo to be held Saturday May 11, at the Jackson River Sports Complex in Covington.

The event is sponsored by area law enforcement agencies including: The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office, the Virginia State Police, the Bath County Sheriff's Office, the City of Covington Police Department, the Town of Clifton Forge Police Department, the Town of Iron Gate Police Department and the Douthat State Park Police.

The event is held in conjunction with Kid's Safety Day and is coordinated by recreation departments from Alleghany County, Bath County and the City of Covington.

“There is nothing more important than promoting the safety of the children in our communities,” said Angela Washington, marketing manager at Shentel. “Shentel fully supports this amazing effort by the state and local police and recreation departments and we are excited to participate in the bike giveaway.”

The bike rodeo features children's games, bicycle safety, youth entertainment and many other fun activities that promote safety. This year, 120 bicycles will be given away, along with other items such as helmets, gift certificates and t-shirts. Shentel is giving away a pair of bikes and will be participating in the events of the day.

Officials are anticipating nearly 600 area youth to participate this year.
