Shentel will be participating in the Uncle Billy’s Day Festival in Altavista, Va., on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1.
The Shentel Experience trailer will be on site with Q99 during this event. Stop by the trailer to learn more about Shentel services and to try them out. We will have giveaways and visitors will be encouraged to register for a grand prize.
This is a special event that started in 1949 as a one-time event to commemorate Billy Lane, the founder of the Trade Lot where local residents brought their vegetables and livestock to sell. Lane was a member of the Lane family which founded the town of Altavista and he was faithful about bringing goods in a wagon to sell at the Trade Lot.
Lane served as master auctioneer and provided entertainment too. The Trade Lot continues to operate the first Saturday of each month as a giant flea market. Over the years, Uncle Billy’s Day has grown into a two-day festival that features a craft show, live music, car show, children’s activities, food vendors and flea market topped off by fireworks on Saturday.
