(EDINBURG) – Shentel night at the River Bandits has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 25, at the Central High School ballfield in Woodstock. Tickets that were handed out for July 12 will be valid on July 25.
It’s going to be a competitive game as the Bandits take on another hot Valley League team, the Harrisonburg Turks.
July 25 also is Little League Night, so local Little League teams will be represented at the game and there will be special recognition of their efforts. Children get into this game free of charge, so the tickets are for adult use.
Look for the Shentel tent as you come in the gate. There will be a special guest appearance by ShentelPages Man, too.
The River Bandits are celebrating their 10th anniversary as a team in the Valley League. The Valley League was formed in 1923 and became an NCAA-sanctioned league in 1961. The league adopted wooden bats in 1993. The VBL is funded in part by a grant from Major League Baseball and is a member of the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball, a national affiliation of summer leagues. The league has produced well over 1,000 professional players in its history.
Most recently, the River Bandits had several former players selected in the 2013 MLB Draft. Justin Seager was taken in the 12th round by the Seattle Mariners. He played in Woodstock in 2011. Miles Williams and Ben Carlson both played in Woodstock last summer and they went in the 15th and 40th rounds, respectively.
All teams in the Valley League are non-profit. The 12 teams play a two-division format. Each team plays a 44-game schedule with playoffs beginning in the last week of July and extending into early August. The top four teams from each division will make up the 2013 playoff field.
