Edinburg, Va. — October 5, 2012 — Shentel, a leading provider of telecommunications services for parts of Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, today revealed its new logo and brand positioning at a town hall meeting for employees at its headquarters in Edinburg and by video connection with the employees throughout Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania . The new logo gives the Shentel brand an updated look and was developed to signify Shentel’s connection to the local communities it serves as the only locally-based communications service provider.
“Although our dedication to enriching the lives of our neighbors by providing the highest quality products and services with local customer service has been the same since 1902, we are excited to launch our new logo as we move forward into the next 110 years and reaffirm our commitment to our customers and the communities we serve,” said Earle MacKenzie, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “Our new TV and radio spots will quickly remind our current customers and inform others in the community that we are a local company with our roots firmly planted here. In fact, when folks see our new TV spot, they should recognize some local landmarks and even recognize some of the people from their communities who are featured as part of the new spot.”
Shentel tapped Baltimore-based marketing communications firm GKV to help develop their new brand identity. In order to ensure the new identity resonated with a wide audience, GKV conducted focus groups over a number of weeks with current and potential customers as well as internal employees. The new brand identity and vision will be shared with customers through new TV and radio spots, which will begin running Friday, October 5, in a number of Shentel’s markets.
Since 2009, Shentel has invested $60 million in upgrading acquired cable networks to bring all of its customers the most current technology to provide the fastest internet, clearer phone service and high definition television. As part of its continuing commitment to bringing the best service to all communities, Shentel recently announced a $9 million capital investment in McDowell County, West Virginia, to replace the current cable network with its Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology. Shentel’s support of the “Reconnecting McDowell” project is just one of many investments made in even the most rural areas. West Virginia Governor Tomblin has also expressed his gratitude for Shentel’s significant investment in our communities.
