Broadband Company Supports Olde Town Covington’s First-Ever Barbeque Competition

Edinburg, Va. – Jan. 30, 2012 – Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN), an established provider of broadband services for Internet, television and home phone, announces its sponsorship of the inaugural Covington Cork & Pork Festival, hosted by Olde Town Covington. Featuring Covington’s first-ever Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS)-sanctioned barbeque competition and wine from several local vineyards, the event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 29, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012, along Main Street in downtown Covington, Va.

Les Balgavy, contest organizer, said, “We are grateful to have a prominent, community-minded company serve as the title sponsor for the inaugural Cork & Pork Festival. Shentel’s generosity and commitment to the Alleghany Highlands area will certainly help us surmount the many logistical challenges involved when hosting a first-time event.”

With the intent of generating interest in Covington and the Alleghany Highlands area, the Cork & Pork Festival’s main event will be the barbeque competition, which will offer monetary prizes and awards. The two-day festival will also feature live music and entertainment, vendors, kids’ activities, wine tastings (courtesy of local and regional vineyards), and more. The barbeque competition will follow the rules and regulations of the KCBS – the world's largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts.

As the title sponsor, Shentel will have personnel onsite at a company booth to answer questions and hand out giveaways. A Shentel representative will also present the Grand Champion trophy to the contest winner at the awards ceremony.

Ashly Morris, president of Olde Town Covington, said, “Olde Town Covington is excited to be hosting the very first Cork & Pork Festival.  As a Virginia Main Street organization, we are thrilled to bring this enticing competition to our historic downtown. The festival will be full of fierce competition, delectable wines and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. We look forward to seeing this event grow every year and bringing people to our beautiful area.”
