Edinburg, Va. – Sept.13, 2011 – Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN), an established provider of Internet, television and home phone services, announces its participation in the inaugural Southern Virginia Business Expo, hosted by the Longwood University Small Business Development Center. As a corporate sponsor and exhibitor, Shentel understands the importance of small, local business growth and will participate at the day-long event, held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Sept. 28, 2011, at the STEPS Centre, located at 100 Industrial Park Rd., in Farmville, Va.
With the theme, “Positioning Your Business for the Future,” this first-ever event features a trade show, guest speakers, breakout seminars and networking opportunities to help provide small business owners and managers knowledge to grow their business in today’s “new” economy. At the Shentel booth, company representatives will be available to provide more information about the company’s latest offerings in digital TV, phone and high-speed Internet for businesses.
Shellie Sellards, director of marketing-cable, Shentel, said, “Since our beginning as a nonprofit telephone cooperative over 100 years ago, Shentel has exemplified how a small business can achieve growth, despite economic and cultural obstacles. The Southern Virginia Business Expo is a great opportunity for us to connect with other small business leaders in the areas we serve, as well as showcase the value our cost-effective telecommunications services can bring to these small businesses.”
Sheri McGuire, executive director of the Longwood University SBDC Network, said, “The Southern Virginia Business Expo is a result of talking with business owners, and holding focus groups, not only in Southern Virginia, but around the state. The SBDC found that business owners see the most educational benefit in the ability to network and learn from their peers, and also that business owners are concerned with marketing in a new economy and effectively reaching a changed consumer. As a result, the expo quickly developed into a day of trade show-style networking as well as opportunities to learn about sales skills, economic trends, leadership and marketing. Shentel is an important partner in supporting this first-ever event, both in terms of sponsorship and the ability to share its expertise with other area businesses.”
