elecommunications company ensures continuation of long-standing town tradition with financial support
Edinburg, Va. – Nov. 28, 2011 – Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN), an established provider of Internet, television and home phone services, announces that is partnering with Downtown Blackstone, Inc. (DBI) and the Blackstone Chamber of Commerce to present the annual Blackstone Christmas Parade. A tradition for more than 60 years, the parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, at the intersection of Church and South Main streets in Blackstone.
Lafayette Dickens, DBI's Program Manager, said, "Shentel is our knight in shining armor with its generous donation. Every year, the Blackstone Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Blackstone Inc. work hard to host enriching community events, such as the annual Christmas parade. Because this year was tight for the town, Shentel's support could not have come at a better time."
Angela Washington, Marketing Manager, Shentel, said, "Shentel is always on the lookout for ways to get involved with the communities we serve. We saw the annual Blackstone Christmas Parade as a great opportunity to give back to our customers and make sure this family-friendly tradition continues."
The Blackstone Christmas Parade will include eight blocks of floats, local marching bands, fire trucks, Santa Claus, and more. Shentel is planning to have its 03 racecar, driven by Eric Elliston of Farmville, in the parade as well. Shentel's support this year also ensured that there is no entrance fee for parade participants, as has been customary.
