The Alleghany Highlands Triathlon includes a 5K run, 5K kayak race, and a 16K bicycle ride for a total of 16.2 miles. However, due to the unsafe conditions of the Jackson River from recent rain, the kayak leg of the race was eliminated and the biking leg was extended by 0.6 miles, turning the 2011 event into a biathlon.
“I always look forward to competing in the Alleghany Highlands Triathlon,” Bartley said. “Even without the river race, the event was both fun and competitive for all participants. I’d like to thank Shentel for supporting me, personally, over the past three racing seasons, and I look forward to continuing that partnership in the future.”
Christopher Kyle, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Shentel, said, “Once again, Jeremy Bartley secures his place as the fastest athlete in the area. On behalf of Shentel, I congratulate him on winning his third Alleghany Highlands Triathlon. It is only appropriate that Shentel, the area’s fastest Internet service provider, supports an athlete with such incredible speed. We truly enjoy this and every event Jeremy races in and we wish him the best of luck at his next race.”
Beginning at the Alleghany Highland YMCA in Low Moor on Saturday, May 21, and ending at Douthat State Park, the Alleghany Highlands Triathlon event is organized by Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc., and the Alleghany Highlands YMCA, with Shentel serving as the premier corporate sponsor.

In the women’s division, Jeannie Simpson placed first (0:59:00), Gabby Dobbs placed second (1:03:59), and Erin Bartley placed third (1:09:31).
