Telecommunications company helps bring West Virginia State Little League Girls Softball Tournament to Petersburg for the first time
Edinburg, Va. – June 30, 2011 – Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN), an established provider of telephone, Internet and cable television services, and Grant County Little League (GCLL), are preparing to host the West Virginia State Little League Softball Tournament for the first time in Petersburg, W.Va. Consisting of about 20 teams total from the 9-10 and 10-11 year-olds divisions, the tournament will be held July 7-13 at Michael Brothers Memorial Field.
“We are excited that the girls are able to play in the state tournament in their hometown this year,” said JR Van Meter, GCLL President. “We have noticed an increase in the popularity of softball in Petersburg over the past few years, and holding the tournament locally is certainly a morale booster. The Grant County Little League is grateful for Shentel’s support in helping us host a great tournament.”
In order to earn a spot in the state tournament, Little League Softball teams had to win their area’s regional or district playoffs. The West Virginia Little League State Tournament winners will go on to play in a Tournament of Champions.
Christopher Kyle, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Shentel, said, “After helping the Grant County Little League host last year’s state baseball tournament, it was fitting for Shentel to lend a hand with the softball tournament this year. It is always our pleasure to bring together the people in the areas we serve, and Grant County is no exception. Shentel wishes all participants the best of luck in the West Virginia State Tournament.”
