Shentel Supports Covington High School Alumni Basketball Game

As the chief sponsor, telecommunications company will help CHS raise scholarship funds

in honor of the school’s late coach during July 2 event

Edinburg, Va. – June 22, 2011 – Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) (NASDAQ: SHEN), an established provider of telephone, Internet and cable television services, invites the Covington community to join in its support of Covington High School at the CHS Alumni Basketball Game on Saturday, July 2. The evening will begin at 4 p.m. with the women’s game, immediately followed by the men’s game in the Cougar gymnasium.

The CHS Alumni Basketball Game will attract more than 80 alumni. Proceeds from the event will go to the Lewis P. Venable Memorial Scholarship fund, an award established in honor of the late Coach Venable, who died in January. The scholarship will be divided between a senior boy and a senior girl basketball player who best exemplify the qualities Venable displayed in his 33 years as a coach and almost 40 years as a teacher at Covington.  Additional proceeds from the game will help support CHS’ basketball teams, including the funding of the CHS girls’ basketball team trip to a tournament in Florida in December.

Charlesette Laws, CHS’ girls’ junior varsity basketball coach, and alumni game coordinator, said, “We greatly appreciate Shentel’s support in helping us hold our first alumni basketball game since 2002. Not only is this an event to welcome alumni back to CHS, but also to honor Coach Venable by funding a scholarship in his name.”

Christopher Kyle, vice president of sales and marketing, Shentel, said, “Shentel is excited for the opportunity to assist Covington High School in making its alumni game a great experience for all who attend. We look forward bringing the community together to support the current basketball teams and reunite old classmates.”
